Knox County Adult High School
Day Program updated 10/08/2009
The Knox County Adult High School Day Program is an innovative diploma program that depends heavily on technology and self-motivated students. The day program features open entry and open exit. Coursework is self-paced. Each student receives a secure folder on the KCAHS server where his or her individualized coursework is stored. Each student is assigned to a teacher who facilitates his or her progress, and serves as a tutor for any material with which the student needs individualized instruction. Highly motivated and dedicated students are offered the opportunity to download assignments and do work at home when materials are available.
The KCAHS Day Program also includes the unique and innovative Life Skills program which requires each student to complete an online portfolio that includes career, interest, and ability assessments. Every student finishes with an understanding of career and educational opportunities as well as a professional resume’.
Each student’s transcript is analyzed and requirements are determined. The KCAHS Day Program is open to any students eighteen years or older. Students who are seventeen years old may be admitted with special recommendation from their base high school.
Students may begin any time of the year after an entrance interview and attending a required orientation. Students may graduate anytime when requirements are completed. Students may immediately receive an updated transcript; however, actual diplomas are only awarded at or after the graduation ceremony in May.
Day students may also attend at night to accelerate graduation.
Classes are every day and the regular Knox County School calendar is followed. Students are expected to attend either the morning or afternoon session everyday or make special arrangements with their teacher. The morning session is from 8:00 to 11:30. The afternoon session is from 12:30 to 3:45.
